Late one night in Contra Costa County, Noey and two other horses broke out of their pasture in search of food and water. The horses were in horrible condition with long overgrown feet, ribs and hip bones protruding, and they were very scared. A neighbor reported the horses to animal control and on a cold night in November the horses were all loaded into a trailer and taken to safety.
It was clear by her lameness and rings on her hooves that she had foundered recently. The horses were taken to a holding corral at the Contra Costa Animal Services where they received good feed and veterinary and farrier care. Due to Noey’s poor health no one was interested in adopting her and her owner never claimed her. The animal control facility was not setup for long term horse care and Noey’s future was grim.
Only days before Noey was scheduled to be euthanized, Redwings was contacted in a last effort to find Noey a home. Noey arrived on January 6, 2010 and has been happy and healthy ever since. She lives at the front of the ranch with Sunny where she can greet all the visitors each day.
