Redwings Arrival: July 15, 2008
In 2008 Redwings received a desperate call for help. After moving to a small farm with his family a man was given two horses are various other animals so the children could enjoy them. Both the horses were older, gentle, and perfect for small kids, but the family had no clue how to feed and care for them. Soon after getting the horses the man was injured and lost his job. He tried to continue to make ends meet, but soon he realized that he could not afford to take care of the horses.
The local SPCA put the man in contact with Redwings and we agreed to take both horses. Japser was an older thoroughbred, he had a tattoo so he probably raced in his younger days, but his tattoo is now faded and is no longer legible. When he arrived he was a body score of one and considered emaciated. His hooves were overgrown and it was apparent that he had Cushing’s disease.
Today Jasper is happy and healthy. His Cushing’s disease is regulated through a medication called Prascend, and at approximately 35 years old he looks great!
