Zonkey is an adorable cross between a donkey and a zebra. He is not as heavily striped as some other zonkeys, but he does have some stripes on his legs, around his eyes and mouth and his head is shaped like a zebra's.

Zonkey had a rough start to life and was rescued when he was only a couple of years old from an abusive home. He was thin and had been attacked by a dog that removed the top of one of his ears. He had also suffered some severe trauma to the side of his face because he was missing most of the teeth on one side of his mouth. After his rescue he lived happily for many years on a small horse ranch with donkey companion.

Zonkey's owner suffered an injury that required multiple surgeries and left her with lasting health issues, and she was no longer able to care for Zonkey. Around the same time the owner of Zonkey's little donkey friend decided to move and take her donkey with her. This woman had been helping to care for Zonkey while his owner was unwell, and the move left no one to take care of Zonkey and he was all alone on the ranch with no companion.

Thankfully we were able to offer Zonkey a home here at Redwings. Zonkey is out with our donkey herd and is thriving at Redwings.
