Truffle was rescued in the late spring of 2024 from a hoarding case. Truffle, along with 3 other horses and many dogs, were seized from a neglectful home in San Luis Obispo County. SLO County Animal Services quickly got a vet out to thoroughly examine the horses. The horses had not had hoof care in a very long time, and all of them had horribly overgrown hooves. 2 of the horses suffered from a fungal skin infection, and one of the horses was blind. Once the initial veterinary and farrier care were done the horses were ready to make the journey to Redwings.
Atlas, the blind pony, has buddied up with Truffle and never leaves her side. We often say that Truffle is Atlas' seeing eye horse. Atlas and Truffle will remain together as permanent residents at Redwings.
